Intersection kitten miraculously makes it out alive: Gets a new name and a new home!
This post is part of our Everyday Hero series, in which we celebrate the bravery of normal people making extraordinary choices that save lives.
“You meet the nicest people on a Honda.”
I’d say this is as true today as it was back in the 60’s and 70’s when Honda used the slogan in their motorcycle ads.
Last Monday, a Honda rider waiting for a light to change spotted what she thought was just a fall-colored leaf being blown about in the busy Oklahoma intersection. A few seconds later, she realized to her horror that it was in fact a tiny kitten getting rolled by the wind of massive tires whizzing by scarcely a whisker’s breath away.
The 25 year old – who wishes to be known only as Laney (or Reddit user Your_Brain_On_Pizza) – took immediate action, parking her bike in front of oncoming traffic so she could dismount and scoop the terrified kitten up, rushing him over to a passerby to hold while she went back for her ride.
Watching this rescue is harrowing, and I can only imagine how it must have felt to actually be there…
Laney brought the two-pound tabby home, gave him the temporary name of Skidmark (“Skids” for short), and then reached out to the owner of the red car from whose undercarriage little Skids appears to drop.
A week and half go by. No response!
And then she posts this lovely video…
Not only does Skids miraculously get a new lease on life, he even has his own Instagram account. (How much fun will it be watching this little guy grow up?)
Yay! I love such amazing happy endings! (No, I am NOT crying, I just have a cat hair in my eye. *sniff*)
P.S. As temperatures drop, cats and other animals are often drawn to the relative safety and warmth of engine compartments and wheel wells. Please remember to give your hood a thump or two before starting your car so you, too, don’t inadvertently gain a passenger on your next errand. ♥

That’s not a tabby its a little Orange Stripped one
Hi, Jordana!
Actually, “tabby” is a coat pattern, not a color, and you’re half-right… it does include stripes. 🙂 Here’s a fun little PDF with everything you ever wanted to know about cat coat colors and patterns: http://sheltermedicine.vetmed.ufl.edu/files/2011/11/identification-and-coat-colors-patterns.pdf
