Spencer and Ralph
Ralph doesn’t really like his half kidney, half chicken breast meals and always takes longer than the other kitties to eat it. The other night, he took so long I actually forgot he was still working on dinner, until 20, 25 minutes later when I popped into the kitchen to grab some ice. My ex-feral tuxedo kitty, Spencer, was in the kitchen and his strange, anxious behavior caught my attention as I was leaving the room. It took a few meows and some twitchy circling before I realized he was sticking awfully close to Ralph’s crate…. and Ralph was still in it!
The second I released Ralph, Spencer relaxed. And these two boys are two years apart in age, completely unrelated, and not at all bonded.
So much for the cats-as-strictly-independent-creatures theory! ;-}

Sometimes those ex-feral cats are more sensitive to the needs of other cats, even those who never knew a day of hardship outside. The photo above is absolutely gorgeous!
You are so right, Bernadette. Spencer and his sister are both extremely easygoing with the other cats. Both would prefer to be friends with everyone, but are totally cool with the boundaries the other cats set.
Thank you for the compliment on the pic. The sun was perfect that day!
they are adorable. I have never viewed cats as being overly independent because mine have always been incredibly attached to me. I know that is one myth that we would all love to dispel! Your babies are just precious
Thanks, Caren.
And you’re spot on – I’d give a LOT to change society’s perception of cats as aloof, unfeeling creatures. They are definitely anything but!
On another note, I’m glad to see these comments. The “Precious Purrsonalities” category is new and I wasn’t sure how well it would do. These posts are well-received on FB, but haven’t garnered much attention on the site. Good to know they’re being enjoyed after all! ;-}
That is so sweet – cats really do seem to look out for each other 🙂 I love that picture also and how the sunlight hits their fur!
