Our “Ask the Expert” session, with Pet Nutrition Blogger Rodney Habib is only a week away! — 2 Comments

  1. My 5 year old cat just underwent a Urethrostomy operation 3 weeks ago. Moving forward, I was told by my Veterinarian, that he needs to remain on a cat food specifically geared towards urinary tract health. The options carried at my Vet’s office were Purina and Hill’s Science Diet. I have strong objections to either brand of cat food, based on prior experience and research. The Vet ended up writing me a prescription for the Royal Canin brand of urinary health food. I am not as familiar with it, and felt their must be a better quality food out there for him. Please note my cat was a feral / stray cat until we took him in about 14 months ago. He has tested positive for Feline Aids. So ot is extremely important to me to feed him the best quality diet, to keep him as healthy as possible, and give him a shot at a long and healthy life. I live in South Carolina, USA. I appreciate any advice you can give me on this matter. Thank you!

    • Hi, Linda! I am very sorry to hear about your kitty. HUGS to you both!

Is your question is meant for Rodney, the pet nutrition blogger? If so, you’ll need to post it in the event when it kicks off on April 6th: https://www.facebook.com/events/819023278145224/.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to take a look at Dr. Pierson’s site, catinfo.org. She is a vet who has worked extensively with cats suffering from urinary tract issues and has detailed information on the most efficient and effective ways to help them. Her most basic points – no kibble, EVER, and feed a fresh – not manufactured – diet. She has a ground raw diet recipe you might find interesting.

If you prefer to feed prey model or whole prey, CatCentric’s raw feeding section covers those in great detail: http://catcentric.org/nutrition-and-food/raw-feeding/.

If you would like to correspond with me personally, you can friend me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TracyDion. I’ll be happy to help you in any way I can!
